Enter to Win a Contest For a PaperNorPlastic Re-Usable Bag

CPP'd on January 5th, 2008

So first of all, Happy New Years to everyone! One can hope that 2008 will be a better year for everyone with a fresh new start.

If you haven’t already thought about a New Years Resolution, may I suggest that you try to bolster your eco-bling by using re-usable bags at the grocery store or at the market instead of using paper or plastic. Its a great way to help out and I think theres nothing cooler than seeing people use these instead of the traditional bags.

To enter the contest is simple, you have to sign up for the email subscription on the original site and confirm the subscription by checking your email inbox and selecting the link that says confirm subscription. Once you have confirmed, your email will be entered into the contest and 3 winners will be selected at random for a PaperNorPlastic re-usable bag…

Global Warming Unplugged

CPP'd on January 2nd, 2008

Electrical appliances and chargers (including cancer cell phone chargers) left plugged in drain electricity like there’s no tomorrow - even when they’re not in use! Yes, even appliances that are switched off can draw power from the grid (it’s called phantom load).

For example, a TV set that’s switched on for 3 hours a day (the average time Europeans spend watching TV) and in standby mode during the remaining 21 hours uses about 40% of its energy in standby mode. Forty (freikin) percent of all electricity is used to power home appliances while they’re turned off!

Yeah, but what could I possibly do about it?

The World’s Simplest, Best, Most Effective Environmental Living Tip

CPP'd on December 24th, 2007

I was talking to a friend who said that the problem for the general public with environmental living is that it is so complicated. How do you know what stores to go to? How do you know what products are okay for the environment? How do cut through the green spin machine that is roaring through the market place?

I’m sure that’s true of some of you who are dropping by the blog. You’d like to do something but don’t know how to get started.

The thing is, you don’t have to know much beyond common sense. Consider this: it’s great to do the market research on, say, a really fuel efficient water heater, but the first thing to do is just use less hot water and turn the thermostat down. If you are having to mix cold water with your hot when you take a shower or bath, your thermostat is way too high. It’s silly to make water so hot that you have to then cool it down to use it.

Here is another in-action example of the environmental living tip I am about to give you. Suppose you have a few friends that work in the same area and live in the same area. Instead of each of you driving your cars, why not car pool? This saves resources and money…

Sparking a Paradigm Shift For Humanity

CPP'd on December 20th, 2007

Whether you choose to be aware of it or not, we are living in an extremely unique time in human history. Many of the fundamental “systems” we take for granted are proving to be unsustainable, and there is a burgeoning movement of environmentalists, spiritualists, writers, speakers, activists, humanitarians and even bloggers who are at the forefront of bringing mass attention to the “un”sustainability of our deep-seated ways of doing things.

One of those people is Duane Elgin, creator and founder of Awakening Earth, who has agreed to share his thoughts on paradigm shift with the We The Change audience. For over thirty years Duane has been speaking and conducting workshops with business leaders, educators, students, and others about the extraordinary time of transition we are moving through as a human family, and we are happy to have him here today:

What’s the Worst That Could Happen: A Global Warming Decision

CPP'd on December 9th, 2007

Global warming: Panicked activists think it’s the worse think to ever happen to humanity… hardening skeptics claim its a hoax… and everyone inbetween simply thinks to themselves: “What’s the worst that could happen?”

But then along comes a 38-year-old science teacher and father of two, and asks 2.5 million YouTube viewers the folllowing question:

What if I told you I think I’ve found an argument that makes that whole bitter question of whether it’s really happening or not, moot? An argument where we don’t need to know whether it’s true or not in order to still decide what to do or not do. An argument that leads to a conclusion that even the most hardened skeptic and the most panicked activist both can agree on?

So what’s the worst that could happen? Well, that depends on which column you choose… (check out this video below:)
