How to Find Passion in Your Job
CPP'd on June 19th, 2008Are you in a stage of loving your life so much that you would pay money to live it? If not? What can you do about it? A common question asked is, “I really want to feel that way, but I’m just not passionate about anything. How do I find passion?”
A friend of mine asked me that question a few weeks ago. He has a high paying job and what appears to lead a full and fulfilling life, complete with volunteering and interesting hobbies. But he felt that something was still missing. He was looking for his purpose and genuinely wanted to find his passion. “I like a lot of things, but I don’t have any passions. How can I find passion, Tina?” This is a great question, and one that got me pondering about the topic. This article specifically looks at finding passion in your job.
This is part two of my notes from Professor Srikumar Rao’s google talk, along with my personal thoughts on the topic. You can find part one here: How to Make Profound and Lasting Change.
The Problem
Most of us make the mistake of assuming that our ideal job is out there somewhere, and we have to go out and find it. We tell ourselves that our lives will be great, just as soon as we find it. As a result, we end up defining our ideal job using a widely accepted, but arbitrary, set of parameters. How much the job pays, job title on your business card, type of person our boss is, size of our office, how much we get to travel. We say in our minds, once I can find that, then I can be passionate about my job. Chances are, that job probably doesn’t exist. Assuming that it did exist and we were put into that situation, within a few months, we will probably be back in the same state we are now. Unsatisfied.

Challenge: Stop Existing And Start Living An Amazing Life
CPP'd on February 28th, 2008We have one single chance to live our lives - just one. Why should we waste even a single moment heading down a path that isn’t what we truly desire?
For much of my life, I’ve been so preoccupied with just making ends meet, that I haven’t had a lot of leftover energy to spend on creating a life that is truly amazing. Can you relate? Now that I make a comfortable living and I’m not stressing out over money constantly, the time has come to challenge myself to take things to the next level.
Money itself does not create an amazing life. Like Tim Ferriss said in his book The 4-Hour Workweek, he was making $70,000 per month but was miserable because he had no time to actually live.
That’s kind of where my life has headed. I’m comfortable, but I don’t have the time I want to live the life I want. As part of the Freelance Smackdown, I challenged Dave Navarro’s time management coaching programs to help me find a few more hours in my day that I could devote to creating passive income streams. After talking to Dave, I got really excited about what I could do with more time. Ultimately, I don’t want more time so that I can work even more. I want more time so that I can live more.
I guess I always thought that somehow this great life would just “happen,” that somewhere along the way things would just fall into place. But now I’m 32 years old and I’m realizing that there is no waiting for something to happen and that creating an amazing life doesn’t happen without a highly concentrated effort.
Have you ever stopped for a moment in time and wondered… “How did this become my life?” If we’re not careful, we can drive ourselves right into a life that bears no resemblance to what we really desire. Is it really possible to break free of an existence we don’t feel passionate about? Do the people living our dream lives have some sort of special quality that gives them a ticket to live an incredible life - or are they just making different choices?
I think it is absolutely possible. I managed to escape one unfullfilling existence (cubicle) in exchange for a new life (freelancing), where I now have a lot more freedom and flexibility. Now, my goal is to take what I learned during that process

How to Achieve Ridiculous Goals
CPP'd on December 17th, 2007Soon after being hired as an Operation Manager for an internet start-up company, I took a risk that could have gotten me fired, but instead elevated me to near rock star status. I applied the same formula many more times at this company which resulted in a kinship with the CEO and founding management team, access to lots more critical information, several thousand dollars in bonuses, company perks, a promotion, a higher salary, and more stock options. My intention with this piece is to deconstruct the method and show you how to get the same types of results.
This is not a solution for the faint of heart or those who are adverse to challenges. This is a way, based on my own experiences, for the entrepreneur who is full of passion and willing to do anything to succeed, to GET THERE.
Let me start by saying that when I took the above mentioned job, I had no experience as an operations manager and wondered if I could actually do the job I’d been hired for. Walking in, I had a healthy amount of confidence, but not a lot of experience in this particular area…

Top 10 Everyday Ways to Save Money
CPP'd on December 14th, 2007Do you feel nervous waiting for the ATM to print out your account balance? Do you find yourself often gazing into an empty wallet, confused?
Boost Your Saving
It’s getting harder to blame savings shortfalls on your miserable pay stub. In fact, how much you save has little to do with your income, research by economists shows. It has more to do with whether you want to save and are willing to adjust to boost your saving.
And you don’t have to be a financial analyst to keep yourself from spending money like a dunce.
Here you will find ten simple, everyday things you can do to put an end to living from paycheck to paycheck.
10. Resist Eating Out
It’s tempting to let someone else do the cooking for you, especially when you’ve just come home from a full day of working. Ordering in or eating out may seem like a way to make your life easier, but it’s an expensive means of doing so.
Taking the extra half-hour at night to make your own dinner, or the extra ten minutes to prepare lunch for the next day, may save you a host of worries when it comes time to pay the bills. If you feel a bit in the dark when it comes to cuisine, well hey, you can find a lot of useful advice on the net.
Cash saved: If you’re dropping $6 daily on a sandwich and salad from the cafe in the lobby, slapping some meat and cheese on a bun the night before instead is going to save you $30 a week. If you’re ordering out a couple of nights a week on top of that, at $10 a dish, you’re looking at a total of $220 monthly that could be slashed from your budget.

Passion Is Breathing (Video)
CPP'd on December 13th, 2007This video was produced months ago for a competition. Christine lead the filming/directing and my friend Shawn took the lead on editing.
I’m shy about sharing this, but I’m going to make it public again, because it’s relevant to the pre-treatment that I wrote - if you read that.
Why am I shy?
Well, for one, it’s evident as you watch it that there is, along with the silly, playful guy I am, a very serious side to me. You can see the energetic remnants of my resistance to life on this planet and what it has taken me to get into a position in life to just be free to play and live life on my terms.
I can hear someone say, “Oh, poor baby, you had to work jobs you didn’t like. Try doing that for forty years like I did. That’s called life.”
Well, hold on…

How I Made $100,000 by Spending 25 Minutes and $0 on Marketing
CPP'd on December 11th, 2007If I were to come across this title, I would be thinking “yeah right.” But I assure you that this is true and the way it was done was not revolutionary or difficult in the least.
What got me thinking about this post was a comment by Mark (Wizzer) from 6M Profit Method on my last post titled “My BS Revealed: Time Management Tricks for The Overachiever”. Wizzer says:
I think the BIGGEST mistake far too many people make is not seeing things through to the conclusion. I’ve done it myself this week - created a site, found the content, amended a header etc but something real important stopped my from ftping it and promoting. That real important thing was I didn’t like some of my copy. As you say Bullsh** - it needs to go up NOW and the changes made later. Thanks for the kick up the ****.
The reason this comment got me thinking was because there was one very critical thing that I did to promote my copywriting business that I procrastinated about due to of some sort of fear that I was harboring. But once I pulled the trigger, I instantly generated a steady stream of income for 1.5 years. That thing cost me 15 minutes of time and a grand total of $0.
When I first went into business for myself as a freelance writer, I did not have the confidence that I have today. Like Mark, because I didn’t feel like I was “ready” I was hesitant to promote myself and was limiting my own potential…

Stress and Money
CPP'd on December 10th, 2007
Stress and worries dealing with money matters seem to be facts of life in modern society. While this problem usually evolves around a lack of sufficient funds to take care of short and long term obligations, it is also common in people who have large sums of money as well. Being “stressed out” due to financial problems can effect ones marital life, and health, leading to disastrous consequences.
Many families develop undue internal stress due to not being able to manage their finances adequately. The influences of advertising, easy availability to credit (especially revolving credit cards), and not sticking to a financial plan are the most common causes of financial crises and subsequent stress. Marital monetary stress, usually revolving around what to spend limited amounts of money on, are common causes of marital stress and ultimate serious crises situations resulting in divorce or even worse…
