12 Easy Ways To Become More Conscious
CPP'd on December 28th, 2007Each day, more people are awakening to the realization that we are connected at a much deeper level—to each other, to the planet, and to the universe at large. Consciousness is blossoming, and I truly believe we are living in a time where humanity will awaken to a new reality that is marked by peace, sustainability, social justice and love.
But we are not there yet, and most human beings still feel completely isolated and alone (a phenomenon that has been referred to as “the human dilemma” throughout history, among other things). Conscious living is not the norm…yet.
There are volumes and volumes written about the illusion the human mind perpetuates; the greatest thinkers in human history—Jesus, Buddha, Emerson, Descartes, Gandhi and countless others—explored the implications of the mind and theorized about a time of conscious enlightenment.
Although many people are becoming intellectually aware of what “consciousness” refers to, they have not yet made the leap to integrating this type of awareness into their own lives. The thing about consciousness is this: it has to be personally experienced for it to permeate an individual’s life, and there has to be a critical mass of people experiencing it to generate a cultural tipping point.
In my opinion, there is nothing more important than this pursuit– it can be the very thing that saves humanity and planet earth! With that said here are 12 excellent practices for starting yourself down a path of increased awareness and heightened consciousness:

Don’t Break Your Back! Tips to Healthy Posture
CPP'd on December 28th, 2007
When you were a child, you may have been told to “Stand up straight!” or “Don’t slouch!” from your parents and teachers. I remember when I was younger, my mother would poke my back out of nowhere to remind me to stand up straight. I hated this as a teen and was determined to rebel for no reason other than to be stubborn and go against what I was told. My purposeful slouching eventually turned into a habit and carried with me into adulthood.
Now that I’m older, I understand why my mother was so insistent. My poor posture now makes me feel:
- Pain in my back and shoulders.
- I am breathing shallowly.
- I appeared to lack self confidence.
- Energy was not flowing efficiently throughout my body. I was often tired.
- It made me look and feel weak.
I have spent much time correcting the damage, and undeveloped muscles, from my rebellious teen years. Like any habit, breaking bad posture can be a challenge, but definitely doable with some attention and practice.
Many of us may like to improve our posture, but we often don’t know how, or where to start…

A Touch of Greatness and Success: A Different Definition
CPP'd on December 27th, 2007The New Year draws rapidly closer; people are starting to set their goals and resolutions – they’re looking for something, and very often this involves what we call success.
But the strange thing is: For many, the definition of success relies on the failure of other people.
Is this true for you? Please read on.
Competition and Comparison
“Wealth - any income that is at least one hundred dollars more a year than the income of one’s wife’s sister’s husband.”
~ H.L. Mencken.
This is how many minds operate: constantly comparing and judging others. How are they doing? Are they prettier, are their biceps bigger, are they richer, is their car bigger?
This mindset is a bottomless pit – we can never find satisfaction in it. Our income increases by $20,000; it might make us ecstatic. But soon, we see Fred from across the street – his car is still bigger! He has what we have, but he got it all at a younger age! And so we resume our struggle. It never ends; we move from thousandaire to millionaire; and then shortly after, we think that’s not enough; now we want to be a billionaire.

Finding the One Truth?
CPP'd on December 25th, 2007I went looking for a single, unchanging truth—something to buffer my mind and spirit from the harsh realities of life. Many popular paths were sampled. Despite their undeniable benefits for so many others, I was not able to achieve a similar satisfaction. I never doubted the value of the practices I sampled, but merely accepted they were not right for me at that time. A key does not cease to be a key because it does not fit the lock in hand.
In time, I collected tools of insight, from here and there, that promised to be helpful. I was determined to construct a custom truth, catering exactly to my unique ‘lock’. Once my compilation had come to some initial stopping point, I realized that some basic concepts within the items from the varied sources were repeated. So, I started to trim out the duplicates and those issues that seemed to possess the least power for me—what I deemed as not vital to my personal definition of reality…Occam’s razor, if you will.
Having felt successful in my collection, I was inspired to condense this compilation to its most basic form. Surely, such a simple answer as I sought did not require a tome to store its meaning. Maybe there could be a mere handful of insights that I could carry about through life. From those few, all other needed knowledge could blossom, as—and only when—needed…

The World’s Simplest, Best, Most Effective Environmental Living Tip
CPP'd on December 24th, 2007I was talking to a friend who said that the problem for the general public with environmental living is that it is so complicated. How do you know what stores to go to? How do you know what products are okay for the environment? How do cut through the green spin machine that is roaring through the market place?
I’m sure that’s true of some of you who are dropping by the blog. You’d like to do something but don’t know how to get started.
The thing is, you don’t have to know much beyond common sense. Consider this: it’s great to do the market research on, say, a really fuel efficient water heater, but the first thing to do is just use less hot water and turn the thermostat down. If you are having to mix cold water with your hot when you take a shower or bath, your thermostat is way too high. It’s silly to make water so hot that you have to then cool it down to use it.
Here is another in-action example of the environmental living tip I am about to give you. Suppose you have a few friends that work in the same area and live in the same area. Instead of each of you driving your cars, why not car pool? This saves resources and money…

Leader Under Construction (Tips Not to Beat Yourself)
CPP'd on December 22nd, 2007
Men at work, building under construction, infrastructure cannot be used, that’s what the signboard is trying to tell us.
Today, I’d like to talk about disappointments with ourselves.
Does this statement sounds familiar? “I should not do that”, “I have got that experience before, why didn’t I learn”, “why am I so stupid?”, “every thing’s messed up now”, “I should have said no”. It’s what normally happens when we have disappointments.
You made a mistake, you supposed to learn from it, you made promise to yourself not to do it again, but again you do it again!!! How can’t you say that you’re stupid?
You perform your best, putting all your heart, energy, and even money to something, yet things result in ridicule and mockery!!! How can’t you say that you’re lousy?
Facing disappointments, it’s vulnerable for us to let go our dream, first we are no longer confident that we can achieve the goal and second, we’re afraid of further disappointments. Do not ever let go of dream because of disappointments. Possible with other reasons and enough assessment, but never with disappointments.
Facing disappointments, instead of declaring a war against yourself, rebuking and insult yourself for the mistakes you made, let’s try to visualize the dream under-construction signboard when you’re faced with disappointments. For me, it’s “Leader under construction”, for you, try “[your dream] under construction”…

Sparking a Paradigm Shift For Humanity
CPP'd on December 20th, 2007Whether you choose to be aware of it or not, we are living in an extremely unique time in human history. Many of the fundamental “systems” we take for granted are proving to be unsustainable, and there is a burgeoning movement of environmentalists, spiritualists, writers, speakers, activists, humanitarians and even bloggers who are at the forefront of bringing mass attention to the “un”sustainability of our deep-seated ways of doing things.
One of those people is Duane Elgin, creator and founder of Awakening Earth, who has agreed to share his thoughts on paradigm shift with the We The Change audience. For over thirty years Duane has been speaking and conducting workshops with business leaders, educators, students, and others about the extraordinary time of transition we are moving through as a human family, and we are happy to have him here today:
